Chuseok (Harvest Festival)

Chuseok is Korea's autumn thanksgiving, a harvest holiday of homecomings and gratitude. Families make songpyeon — chewy half-moon rice cakes steamed over pine needles — and hold ancestral rites, while palaces and folk villages fill with visitors in hanbok. As at Seollal, expect shop closures and crowded trains and roads as the country travels home.
