The head temple of the Jogye Order, Korea's largest Buddhist sect, tucked improbably among the office towers north of Jonggak. Its Daeungjeon main hall — brilliantly painted and enshrining three great gilded Buddhas — faces a courtyard shaded by a white pine and a locust tree said to be some five centuries old. During the springtime Lotus Lantern Festival the whole yard blooms with colour.
