The capital of Gangwon sits among lakes formed by dams on the Han's north branch, and it is the birthplace of dak-galbi — chicken and vegetables griddled in a sweet-spicy sauce — best eaten along Myeongdong Dak-galbi Alley and chased with cold makguksu noodles. Beyond the food, a ferry crosses Soyang Lake to the mountain temple Cheongpyeongsa, and the willow-lined Gongjicheon park rings Uiam Lake. It is also the gateway to Nami Island and the Gangchon rail bike.
